Dr. Betty A. Reardon - Founder of IIPE and Winner of 2013 Peace Prize

Since 1998, Fuad El-Hibri has served in various leadership positions, including Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman of the Maryland-based biopharmaceutical company Emergent BioSolutions Inc. Fuad El-Hibri is also the founder of the El-Hibri Foundation, which awarded its 2013 Peace Education Prize to Dr. Betty A. Reardon.

Dr. Reardon is a longtime educator and advocate of peace and human rights. Some of her most notable accomplishments include her development of the Peace Education Center at the Teachers College of Columbia University, and her establishment of the International Institute on Peace Education (IIPE). Founded in 1982, the IIPE is an annual week-long residency for global-peace educators, hosted at various universities and centers around the world. The goal of the IIPE is to expand the field and availability of peace education by encouraging proactive discourse among activists, academics, and professional workers. Because of her work through the IIPE, Dr. Reardon earned an Honorable Mention award from UNESCO in 2001.
