El-Hibri Foundation Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Betty A. Reardon

As chairman of Emergent BioSolutions in Rockville, Maryland, Fuad El-Hibri gives back to the community through the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation. In late 2013, Fuad El-Hibri’s nonprofit group announced its honoree for the yearly Peace Education Prize. Timed to coincide with the International Day of Peace, the prize was awarded to Laureate Dr. Betty A. Reardon at a well-attended event in Washington, DC.
A longtime Columbia University Teachers College faculty member, Dr. Reardon has achieved distinction as the founding academic director of the Global Campaign for Peace Education for the Hague Appeal for Peace. She also serves as the International Institute on Peace Education’s founding director emeritus. In these capacities, Dr. Betty A. Reardon has instructed and mentored numerous teachers and peace education leaders in strategies for attaining alternatives to the cycle of violence and war. A noted author and public speaker, Dr. Reardon received the Sean McBride Peace Prize from the International Peace Bureau in Geneva in 2010. As an El-Hibri Peace Education Prize recipient, she received a cash gift of $20,000 that will further her efforts in the international peace sphere.
